From my travel journal: 25 rolling, tossing hours on the South China Sea. No enclosed cabin, not enough head room to stand, too crowded to lie down. Many of the passengers were sick. No toilet, just a hole in the deck. No safety equipment of any kind. No fire extinguisher, lights, radio, life raft or jackets. The captain amused us with magic tricks.
