The fifth annual race took place on August 20, 2002, and started at the Fleetwood. The race continues to get bigger every year. Last year's big technical innovation was bicycle wheels. This year some of the carts were equipped with bicycle drivetrains, some including elaborate gearing. Some of the carts were huge monstrosities that only vaguely resembled actual grocery store shopping carts.
