Asus eee pc 701

Thinkpad x40

225 × 165 × 35 mm, 0.9 kg

I got this in December 2007 with my Research Incentive funds. I really like the tiny size of this computer, comparable to my Gateway Handbook, although the cramped keyboard and display are problems. When I first got this I blew away the Xandros distro it came with and installed Ubuntu, which required quite a few patches to run. As of Ubuntu 8.04 everything pretty much works, except that you need madwifi to get the 802.11 working, and suspend/resume are very unreliable. I switched to Adam McDaniel's kernel, and everything worked perfectly. As of Ubuntu 9.10, everything seems to work without any patches, extras, or special kernels.
